Halsey James Munson was born on October 6, 1907, in Greenwich, CT, to Reta Clarissa White, age 28, and Harry Chapman Munson, age 31.He grew up in Port Chester, where his uncle served as mayor and was graduated from the Port Chester High School. Halsey was a 1931 graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, CT. and attended New York University.

He married Marguerite Stockbridge Hoyle on December 25, 1931, in Rye, New York. The ceremony was performed at the home bride’s parents on Christmas afternoon by the Rev. Stanley S. Kilbourne, rector of St. Peter’s Church, Port Chester. The couple had one child during their marriage.

In 1940 Halsey was working for Harper Brothers Publishers and living in NYC. Halsey enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His service number was 907 59 52

FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 1944 RYE, NEW YORK

After his discharge from the service, Halsey was advertising manager of Creative Age Press in New York City, He also had been a literary agent and an editor for the Bobbs-Merrill Publishing Co. and head of the library department at Harper and Bros. Publishers, both in New York City.

For more than 20 years, Halsey had been a resident of Rye, where he was a member of Christ’s Church. In Rye his family lived at 852 Boat Lane.

Halsey J. Munson 3rd (1907-1960): A literary agent and former book publishing executive, he died of cancer at his home in Rye August 31, 1960 at the age of 52. He was a graduate of Trinity College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a reader and head of the school library department at Harper & Bros. and later as the head of the New York office for the Bobbs-Merrill Company.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his mother, Mrs. Reta White Munson; his wife, Marguerite Stockbridge Hoyle Munson of the home address; a son, Halsey IV; a brother, Russell Davies Munson of Port Chester; two sisters, Mrs. Robert E. Kelley of Greenwich and Mrs. John Warner of Bedford Village, and several nieces and nephews..
