Edward F. ONeill

Edward F. ONeill was born June 27, 1920, in Rye to Andrew and Julia. Mooney O’Neill. He had four brothers: Joseph, Andrew, Thomas and William and a sister Mary. In Rye his family lived on Forrest Avenue and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Edward attended Resurrection School and was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1939. He enlisted in U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

On Oct 23, 1943, he married Pauline Tillinghast in an Army Air force base chapel in Columbia, S.C., where he was stationed. Soon after, Edward served overseas as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Forces.

After the War, Edward worked for 38 years for New York Telephone. Co. in White Plains. He retired as a central office foremaiiin 1983. He was a member of the ‘company’s Telephone Pioneers.



Before Moving to Westbrookville, N.Y.. Edward had lived for a year in New Fairfield, Conn. He had previously resided for 18 years in Somers and more than 40 years in Rye.

Edward F. O’Neill died of cancer July, 24 1988 at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 68.

At the time of his death, in addition to his wife, he was survived by his grandson, Edward F. ONeill III of Garrison, N.Y.

A son. Edward F O’Neill Jr died in 1987. Four brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Thomas and Willlam and a sister, Mary Higgins, died earlier.
