Charles F. Otto

Charles Francis Otto and his twin brother Walter J were born on January 17, 1923, in New York, their father, Walter, was 39, and their mother, Delia, was 36. He had two brothers and one sister. In Rye his family lived at 8 Locust Ave.

Charles enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In January 1943 he was among the largest contingent from Rye/Mamaroneck Draft Board 750 and left for basic training camp. There were 116 in the
group, including Charles and 42 others from Rye. He would serve three years and be honorably discharged in January 1946.

Charles served many years as a volunteer with the Rye Fire Department Poningoe Engine and Hose Co.

Charles married Elizabeth M “Betty” Porter on June 29, 1963, when he was 40 years old and they had two children together.

They moved to Highland Park, NJ in 1971. Charles was in charge of several apartment complexes in Highland Park for 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 493 of Mystic Island. He was a Communicant at St Theresa’s RC Church Tuckerton

Charles Francis Otto died on October 9, 2001, in Tuckerton, New Jersey, at the age of 78, and was buried there.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth M in 1991 and was survived by his sons Charles and Patrick John both of Little Egg Harbor his sister Kathryn Bahar of Rye NY and his grandson Jonathan C.

Mass was celebrated Saturday October 13, 2001 at St Theresa’s RC Church.
