Aart (Arthur) Peterse

Aart (Arthur) Peterse was born on April 18, 1903, in Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands, to Hendrica Margaritha van Kuilenburg, age 24, and Gerrit Peterse, age 31. He was raised and educated in the Netherlands and moved to Bethlehem, Pa., as a young man. He later lived in New Rochelle and Rye, N.Y..

He married Cornelia J Van Haasteren July 17, 1928 in New Rochelle, NY and they would have two sons together. In Rye he lived at 1011 Boston Post Road and was employed by his father in law Rossier Van Haasteren.

Aart served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, he and his family moved to Toms River, NJ. He worked for over a decade as a chef and baker at the Riverview Hotel and Restaurant, in Toms River.

Aart Peterse died June 2, 1959 in Toms River, New Jersey, at the age of 56, and was buried there.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Cornelia, a son, Gerard, Holly Village, Toms River; a brother, Joseph Peterse, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; and four grandchildren.
