George Laurence Peters was born May 4, 1922, to the late Marion Drullard Peters and George Laurence Peters. He graduated Choate School, ’41 and attended Columbia University. In Rye his family lived at 105 Highland Road.
George enlisted August 26, 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the Army in the invasions of Okinawa and the Philippines. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered during the invasion of Leyte Gulf.

Pfc, George L Peters, Jr. was wounded in the early days of the invasion of the Philippines, according to an airmail letter received on Tuesday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George L. Peters. 106 Highland Road. Thrown into the air when a bomb struck near his landing party. PFC. Peters sustained injuries to his leg and it was at first feared he might lose the use of his knee. He has now assured his parents that his injuries are slight. Larry enlisted in August, 1942 and was called into service in May, 1943. George was honorably discharged on January 21, 1946 and returned home.
He married June Simpson on June 4, 1949 in Christ Church, Greenwich, the Rev.
Albert J. M. Wilson, rector, officiating. They had two children during their marriage. The family moved and lived in Greenwich from 1947-2009.
He was a past member of the New York University Club and Columbia University Club ; Apawamis Club and Manuring Island Club, Rye, and Campfire Club of America and Indian Harbor Yacht Club.
A long standing volunteer, he served a term as President of the Round Hill Fire Company. He had also served as President of the Greenwich Historical Society in 1986. He belonged for many years to the Belle Haven Club and was a life member of the Campfire Club of America in Chappaqua, NY.
George Laurence Peters, Jr., 93, died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, New Hampshire. He was pre deceased by his wife of 58 years, June Simpson Peters who passed away in 2007.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his two children: Susan Drullard Peters and Clifford Simpson Peters (wife Wilhelmina), his two grandchildren, Pilar Peters Abuin (husband Angel) and Victoria Peters Moore (husband Patrick), his two great grandchildren, Javier and Madeline Abuin, and his cousin, Marguerite Craig Stevens.
