John P. Quirk was born June 22, 1905, to Peter and Agnes Quirk in Rye, where he was raised and educated. He had three brothers and two sisters.. In Rye his family lived at 19 Meadow and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. John enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John Quirk and Edith E. Mead were married in Orleans, MA. He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Rye, prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the war, Mr. Quirk returned to the post office. He was a window clerk there until his retired in the early 1950s after 30 years of service.

John moved to Orleans from Rye after his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 308 in Orleans.John was an avid photographer, who enjoyed working with tools, writing and typing, family members said. John owned the Little Cove Cottages in Orleans, three cottages that he rented in the summer months.

John Peter Quirk, a former U.S. postal service employee from Rye, died Tuesday March 7, 1995, at a relatives home in Orleans, Mass. Mr. Quirk was 89.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife of Orleans, a brother, Leslie Quirk of Rye; a nephew, Anthony J. Quirk of Orleans; and three grandnieces. A brother, Francis J. Quirk, predeceased him.
