Robert R. Rathgeb

Robert R. Rathgeb was born Sept. 18, 1927, to Vincent A and Clara Gallagher Rathgeb in Port Chester. Robert attended grade schools in Port Chester and graduated from Rye High School in 1944. In Rye his family lived at 20 Orchard Ave.

Robert enlisted in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Later, Robert graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and Art Students League and Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. He also studied art in Rome and Paris, according to his sister, Sister Mary Elisabeth Rathgeb of the Religious Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown.

Robert lived in Rye for about 20 -years, before moving to Manhattan in 1958. In May I960, he married Marlene Marini at St Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake, NJ.

Robert had worked as art director at Georg Jensen Silversmiths, promotion art director at House Beautiflil magazine and associate art director at House and Garden magazine, all in New York City. He also was an art director at Ipco Corp. in White Plains.

At the time of his death, Robert was a free-lance artist and alcohol and substance abuse counselor to Manhattan. .

Robert Francis Rathgeb, an artist and former Rye resident, died Sunday May 15,1991 of cardiac arrest at Bellevue Hospital to New York City. He was 63.

At the time of his death, in addition to his mother and his wife and his sister of Tarrytown, Robert was survived by two daughters, Lisa Rathgeb and Amy Rathgeb, both of Manhattan; two brothers, Vincent Jr. of Poughkeepsie and Donald of Essex Junction, Vt
