Paul Schindo was born on August 3, 1908, in Rye, New York, to Immaculata (Maria) Riccio, age 31, and Leonardo Schindo, age 34. He had six brothers and three sisters and in Rye his family lived at 209 Central Avenue. Paul attended Rye schools and his family were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Before the war he worked at the NY Athletic Club in NYC and was also a golf instructor at the Apawamis Club.

Paul married Dorothy Violet Snow in Russell, Alabama, on April 11, 1941, when he was 32 years old.

Paul enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 29th Infantry Regiment and rose to the rank of Sergeant.

When the United States entered World War II, the 29th Infantry was still at Fort Benning, but moved to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, on 3 May 1943. Three months later the regiment moved to Iceland, where it defended the rocky coastline until shipped to England in preparation for the invasion of Europe.

In August, 1944 the regiment deployed to France where it provided security to the “Red Ball Express”, the supply route which kept the armored thrust rolling into Germany.

During the “Battle of the Bulge”, the regiment secured and defended river crossings along the Meuse River in the vicinity of Namur and Liege, Belgium. The Regiment saw heavy combat near Jemelle and Rochefort, Belgium. The 29th served in the Army of occupation at Frankfurt on Main and then in the Bremen Enclave near Bremerhaven at Camp Grohn.

After his discharge, Paul spent his life as a Golf Professional and as a “Teaching Pro”. He married his wife Diana on May 12, 1955 in Rye. The couple would move to Florida in 1959.

Paul Schindo, 83 of Tamarac. FL died Tuesday, August 6, 1991 at a local hospital. he had came to this area in 1959 from Rye, NY.

He was survived by his wife, Diana M.; daughter, Caryl Long of Margate; brother, Lawrence Schindo of Rye, NY and Leonard Schlndo of Boca Raton; sisters, Mary Colan- gelo of Bridgeport, CT and Adeline Rltacco of elray Beach; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held, Friday, August 9, 1991, at JENNINGS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, conducted by Dr. John O. Taxis.
