David Scribner

Robert David Scribner was born on June 1, 1907, in Chicago, Illinois, to Josephine Morris Brown, age 41, and Gilbert Hilton Scribner, age 46. In Rye his family lived at 25 Milton Rd and were members of Christ’s Church.

David was a descendant of Gen. William Hammond, aide-de-camp to George Washington. He prepared at Choate School for St. Stephen’s College, from which he was graduated June 1932.

He married Eunice Russell Bastedo April 27,1933 and they had two children together.

David enlisted June 7, 1942 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mails are Slow with Sons and Grandsons in Service
Mrs. Gilbert H. Scribner, of Milton Road, has one complaint against the U. S. government the mail service does not keep her in close enough conduct with her sons and grandsons in the various theatres of war. Two letters did come this week one from Captain David Scribner, attached to Headquarters Supply Staff in England announcing his promotion to the rank of major. Another son, Romeyn B. Scribner, naval lieutenant in the South Pacific who is recuperating from fever in New Zealand after five months at Guadalcanal. Mrs. Scribner has two grandsons in the service, Gilbert Hilton Scribner 4th, serving as a lieutenant aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific, and William VanDyke Scribner, who is with an anti-aircraft battery at Fort Sheriden, IL. . She is also proud of the fact that a grand-daughter, Gerttrude Scribner, is now the wife of Leut. John T. Blossom, Jr. , Army Air Corps, stationed in California.

After the war, David Scribner spent his career as a real estate counselor and appraiser.

He died at his home November 1, 1974 in Armonk NY at the age of 67. Memorial services were held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Armonk.
