Donald Seaman

Donald Francis Seaman was born on January 27, 1908, in Maricopa, Arizona, his father, Rufus, was 37 and his mother, Grace, was 29.

He married Frances E Holderman on March 7, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. In Rye his family lived in Sussex Gardens.

Donald enlisted October 6, 1942 and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Lt. Donald Seaman Awarded Bronze Star

Lieut. Donald F. Seaman, USNH, of 804 Wheeler Street, Reno, Nevada, former scout executive for the Nevada and California area, Boy Scouts of America, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious conduct in action against the enemy. The medal was presented by Lieut. Comdr. John H. Mathis, USNR. Officer in Charge of the Advanced Naval Intelligence School, 353 West 57th Street, New York, where Lieut. Seaman is now on duty.

The citation accompanying the medal, signed by Vice Admiral T. C. Kinkaid, USN, Commander Seventh Fleet, follows:

For distinguishing himself by meritorious conduct in action against the enemy, while serving as Intelligence Officer on the Staff, Commander Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons, Seventh Fleet, from September 1943 to January 1945. In furtherance of PT operations he voluntarily made over thirty combat patrols in which there was frequent action with the enemy, and in addition flew numerous air missions in order to coordinate PT and aircraft operations. By his skillful leadership and ceaseless industry he has developed an organization which has contributed greatly to task group administration and to combat operations in the Southwest Pacific Area. His conduct throughout distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

Lieut. Seaman is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Seaman, of 950 South Paramount Boulevard, Downey, Calif. His wife, the former Winona McKay, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. K. McKay, of Reno. Lieutenant Seamans present address is Sussex Gardens, Rye

He would serve throughout Korea and Vietnam retiring from the Navy February 1,1970.

Donald F. Capt., U.S.N., Ret. ,67, passed away August 10, 1975 in Loma Linda, Calif. He was survived by wife, Wynona; daughters, Dona Futvoye of Newbury Park, Calif. and Susan Barnard of’ Fairbanks, Alaska; 6 grandchildren. Private services were held at Wiefels & Son Chapel, Yucca Valley, Calif.
