Description
John Shethar was born in Rye on May 10, 1927 He was the son of John Burke and Gwendolen Noble Shethar. He had three sisters and in Rye his family lived on Stuyvesant Avenue. John was an alumnus of the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville Conn.
He enlisted June 6,1945 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. See Muster Rolls He was honorably discharged on August 24, 1946. View Discharge Record
John left Rye shortly after World War II and he graduated from Yale University in 1950.
He married Arline Louise Kropp on December 29, 1960, in Evanston, Illinois. They had two children during their marriage. The family moved to Bellevue, WA in 1966.
John was a senior vice president in charge of operations with the Weyerhaeuser Company. He was with Weyerhaeuser far approximately 29 years
John Shethar a former Rye resident who was an executive with Weyerhaeuser Co., died of a heart attack Sunday March 13, 1983 at his Bellevue Wash home, He was 55.
At the time of his death, in addition to his mother, John was survived by his wife Arline of Bellevue, one son John Burke and one daughter Alissa Louise Shethar both of Bellevue three sisters Lois Shethar Smith of Rye, Gwendolen Everett McKinnie of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif and Sylvia Shethar Everdell of Boston and several nieces and nephews of Rye.
