James Clifford Sniffen
James Clifford Sniffen was born November 15, 1920 in Rye, New York, to Margaret McCaffery Sniffen, age 24, and Clifford Sniffen, age 27. In Rye his family lived on Forrest Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
James served as an officer in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.
Shirley Holman And Clifford Sniffen were married October 9, 1948 in St Aloysius Church, New Canaan CT.
James C. Sniffen, 54, of Maple Street, died Wednesday in Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, CT after a long illness. A native of Port Chester, N.Y., he lived in Litchfield, CT since 1966.
He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Holman Sniffen of Litchfield; a son, John Sniffen of Litchfield; and a daughter, Barbara Sniffen of Litchfield.
The funeral was held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Litchfield. Burial: East Cemetery, Litchfield.
