Description
Robert A. Somerville

I went in the Navy in June of 1966 and my first duty station was a Destroyer Escort out of Newport RI. During my second year on the ship I received orders to Vietnam with a group called The Mobile Riverine Force. I spent 13 months on a small boat going up and down the rivers in the Mekong Delta. During my time in-country I received the Purple Heart for wounds during an ambush on the river.
After my 13 months I was stationed on a Destroyer out of San Diego and recieved my discharge from the Navy in April 1970 with a 3 month early out for serving in Vietnam.
When I got home I got married and had 2 children. I spent 22 years with the Rye Police Dept. and retired in 1999. My father and my uncles went to Rye High School and I graduated from Rye High School. Both of my children graduated from Rye High School and I now have grandchildren in the Rye School system.

Hey Rob, I was trying to get Dad acquainted with his smart phone and I showed him how easy it is to look up people and I mentioned your name. He got such a kick out of it. He’s doing pretty good considering he’ll be 99 this coming April I hope you and your family are doing well. I’d love to get up to Rye sometime and touch base with you guys. Take care sincerely, Mark.
