William Wood Struthers Jr.

William Wood Struthers Jr. was born on September 26, 1919, in New York to Mary Bloodgood Grundner, age 23, and William Wood Struthers, He had three sisters and in Rye his family lived on Milton Rd and were members of Christ Church. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s School, Concord, N. H. and Yale University, class of ’41.

William married Lilly Sutton Ferrell on July 19, 1941, in Forsyth, North Carolina. They had three children during their marriage.

William served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the China Burma India (CIB) Theatre.

The China Burma India (CBI) Theater was the U.S. military designation during World War II for operations in China, Burma (Myanmar), and India, primarily focused on resupplying Chinese forces and tying down Japanese troops to prevent their deployment to other fronts. It was often referred to as the “Forgotten Theater” due to receiving fewer resources and less attention compared to the European and Pacific theaters.

After he returned home, William was a partner in Henderson, Harrison & Struthers, stockbrokers, of 40 Wall St. He had lived in Rye for thirty-nine years.

Grandview Avenue died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday May 27,1961 at his home. He was forty-one years old.

Mr. Struthers was a vestryman
of Christ’s Church where funeral
services were held with the rector, Dr. Wendell Phillips, officiating.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, the former Lilly Ferrell of Winston Salem,
N. C, his parents, two sons, William Wood III and Robert; one
daughter, Ann, and three sisters,
Mrs. Richard Pinkham of Rye ,
Mrs. A. Michael Frothingham of
Rye, and Mrs. L. Paul Bremer Jr.
of New Canaan, Conn.
