Edward G. StroetzelEdward G. Stroetzel was born in New York on January 14, 1920, he was the son of Hugo G. and Marion (Niederoest) Stroeztel. In Rye Edward lived on Oakwood Avenue with his parents and his younger sister Anne and younger brother Glenn.
Edward’s father had an 8th grade education, and worked as a plumber. Edwards’s mother had an 8th grade education and was a homemaker. The family were member of the Rye Presbyterian Church.
Edward was a proud member of the Rye High School class of 1938. In high school Edward played on the football team, and the baseball team. Between sports, Edward somehow found time to still manage the drivers club.
After high school Edward apprenticed at Yale & Towne Lock Co. of Stanford, Conn, and graduated as a certified tool and die maker. Edward registered for the draft in 1941, and was drafted into the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and accepted for the
Aviation Cadets.

Following World War II, Edward received an honorable discharge. He was very active in both the American Legion Post 128 and the Rye Pioneer Club.
Edward enjoyed many years of boating and camping on the islands of Lake George and also enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an avid Giants fan. He moved to Glens Falls in 1998 to be near his sister, Anne.
Edward G. Stroetzel, 80, died Saturday October 14, 2000, at Indian River Rehab and Healthcare Center in Granville, New York.
Besides his parents, his brother, Glenn, brother-in-law, James McMurray and a nephew, Craig Stroetzel all died before him.
At the time of his death survivors included his sister, Anne McMurray Wiberg and her husband John of Glens Falls: his twin nephews. James McMurray of Richmond. Va. and John McMurray of Hopkinton. N.H. and Stephen and Douglas Stroetzel both of Maryland; his sisters-in-law. Beatrice Bland of Maryland and Gloria Stroetzel of Mamaroneck and his grandniece, Christine Stroetzel of Maryland.
