By the early twentieth century, he had relocated to Westchester County, New York, where he became closely connected to both Port Chester and Rye, residing on Rye Beach Avenue.

By 1917, he was employed as a managing supervisor with the Russell, Burdsall & Ward Bolt and Nut Company in Port Chester, reflecting a skilled industrial career within one of the region’s important manufacturing firms.

World War I Service

Tilley entered military service on July 30, 1918, when he was inducted at Port Chester, New York, into the United States Army. He was assigned to a General Service and Supply unit, identified in records as the 330th G & F Company, part of the Army’s logistical structure.

Units of this type supported the operational effectiveness of the Army by handling supplies, materials, and essential support functions during a period of rapid mobilization. These formations were critical to maintaining the flow of equipment and provisions necessary for both training and deployment.

Tilley served in the rank of Private First Class, to which he was promoted on August 26, 1918, reflecting reliable service within his unit.

His period of service occurred during the final months of the war, and there is no record of overseas deployment or combat engagement.

He was honorably discharged on January 13, 1919.

Life After Service

Following his military service, Tilley returned to Port Chester, where he continued his long career with the Russell, Burdsall & Ward Bolt and Nut Company, eventually working in the purchasing department. His employment reflects stability within the industrial workforce that supported the region’s economic growth.

He married Maude Lockwood Hallenbeck in 1918, and the couple raised two daughters. He remained a resident of the Port Chester–Rye area for nearly five decades.

Tilley was a member of the North Baptist Church and maintained ties to the local community throughout his life.

Arnold B. Tilley died on March 28, 1954, at United Hospital in Port Chester, New York, at the age of 63.
