Rex Cooney Young
Rex Cooney Young was born on July 15, 1920 in Portland, Oregon to Guy K Young and Avis Ruth Cooney. He had one brother Richard, and in Rye his family lived at 6 Hill St..
In 1940 Rex and his family were living at 121-31 195 Street in New York, New York. Rex was 19 and brother Richard was 15-years old. Rex’s father was 46 and his mother was 46. Both of his parents had a college education and Rex was in college.
The census worker recorded Rex’s occupation as a Messenger in the cosmetics industry. In 1939, he earned $390 ($7,410 in today’s dollars) and worked 26 weeks of the year. In 1942 he was working at Sales Affiliates Inc. in NYC.
Rex enlisted November 6,1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged 16 Feb 1946.
He married Susanne Morton February 6, 1949 in Queens, NY and they would have two children. In 1950, he was living in Queens and working as a bartender and his wife was a dental assistant. The family would move to California in 1961 and raise their family.
Rex Cooney Young died on August 3, 1980, in Santa Clara, California, at the age of 60. Susanne passed away June 24, 2005.
They were survived by their children, Amy Birlew of Ripon and Bridget Ledesma of San Jose; and seven grand children.
