William A. Bumstead

William A. Bumstead was born October 13, 1917 in St. Louis, Mo., son of Robert and Edna (McGarrhan) Bumstead.. He had one sister Edna and two brothers Robert and John. In Rye his family lived at 333 Rye Beach Avenue and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

William enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He served overseas as a sergeant in the 647th Air Mat Squadron, 447th Air Service Group.

The group was stationed at RAF Rattlesden, England from 25 November 1943 to 1 August 1945.

William met his future wife Joyce Dowling while serving England they married March 1, 1947 in Rye.

After the war, He was vice president and head of the accounting department of Catskill Craftsmen, Inc., Stamford. He was a resident of Stamford since 1954, moving from Rye.




William A. Bumstead, 46, of Hobart Road, Stamford, died unexpectedly September 16, 1964 while at work.

Surviving are his wife; his mother of Mamaroneck; two sisters, Mrs. William Conover Old Greenwich, Conn., Miss Edna Bumstead, of Mamaroneck; two brothers, Robert of Summit, N.J., John of Miami, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services were Saturday, September 19 at the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, with the Rev. William Phinney, pastor of Stamford Methodist Church, officiating, Burial was in Stamford Cemetery.
