James D. Peterson was born in Rye, NY, June 9, 1911 to Alfonso and Lucy Russo Peterson. James was a life-long resident of Rye and educated in the Rye public schools. He had Three brothers; Alfonso, Angelo and Joseph and two sisters Mary and Jane. In Rye the family lived at 56 Maple Ave.

James enlisted April 15,1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served four years in the African and European Theatres. He was honorably discharged September 11, 1945.

After the war, James was a golf shop attendant at Apawamis Club in Rye for more than 40 years.
He was a member of the Rye Triple A, the United States Professional Golfers Association and the Church of the Resurrection

He was survived by three brothers, Alfonso of Washington DC, Joseph of the home address and Angelo of Rome NY: and two sisters Miss Mary Peterson and Mrs Alfred (Jane) Lenoci both of Rye
