Early Life

Charles Warren Moore was born on December 19, 1893, in Ashaway, Rhode Island, the son of Charles William Moore and Edith Mae Garrison. He spent his early childhood in Rhode Island before his family relocated to New York, where his sister Dorothy was born in Brooklyn in 1896, indicating the family’s early movement into the greater New York area.

By 1917, Moore was living on Elmendorf Avenue in Rye, New York, and was working as a public school teacher in the Ten Mile District of Harrison County, West Virginia. At the time of his draft registration, he was single and reported that his mother was dependent upon him for support, reflecting both his role within his family and his professional standing as an educator.

He married Rhea Vivian Ford on September 18, 1917, in Harrison County, West Virginia. Over the course of their marriage, they had two children, Jeanne Vivian Moore and Peter Warren Moore.

World War I Service

Moore entered military service on June 20, 1917, as a member of the United States Naval Reserve Force. He served at the naval training camp located at Pelham Bay Park, one of the principal training facilities used by the Navy during World War I to prepare personnel for service.

His period of active service was relatively brief, extending from June 1917 until his discharge on December 17, 1917. His duties were associated with training and preparation during the early mobilization phase of the war, and there is no record of overseas deployment or combat service.

Life After Service

Following his military service, Moore returned to civilian life and pursued a career in education. He later became a member of the faculty at Ohio State University, reflecting a continuation of his professional life in teaching and academia.

He lived in multiple locations over the course of his life, including Rye, New York, and later Franklin, Ohio, indicating a career that took him beyond the New York region while maintaining ties to his earlier life.

Charles Warren Moore died on May 5, 1954, at the age of 60 and was buried in Hornell, Steuben County, New York.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Rhea Vivian Ford Moore; his daughter, Jeanne Vivian Moore; and his son, Peter Warren Moore.
