Arthur E Schmidt
Arthur E Schmidt was born on March 15, 1926 in Rye, NY to Charlotte Brown Johnson and Arthur E Schmidt. He graduated from Harrison High School in Harrison, NY. In Rye his family lived at 5 York Avenue.
Arthur enlisted January 1, 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. he would serve almost three years in the Navy.
He married Margaret Seaborg July 12, 1947 and they had two children together. She died in 1970 and he then married Ruth Caroline Gallup.
Arthur was a lineman for the New York Telephone Company until he left to own and operate Nu-Clear Pool Service in Port Chester, NY with other partners in 1959. He retired from there in 1981 and established a gem and jewelry business in Franklin, NC shortly thereafter with his wife, Ruth.
He was an expert in electronics, masonry, wood and cabinet-making and crafting jewelry. He understood nature and loved the outdoors. In recent years, he loved painting and his grandchildren. He sang his whole life in glee clubs, church choirs, barbershop choruses and quartets and wherever there was a song. He had a lot of courage.
He was a past member of the United Methodist Church of Rye, NY, the Summerfield United Methodist Church of Port Chester, NY and, since 1982, the Snow Hill United Methodist Church of Franklin, NC. In recent months he had helped create a small worship group at Traces of Tiger, a senior living facility, where he lived with his wife, Ruth.
Arthur E. Schmidt, Jr., 79, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 in Tiger, GA. Formerly of Franklin, NC and Rye, NY
At the time of his death, he was survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Ruth, of Tiger, GA; son, James Schmidt of Richmond, VA; daughter, Lisa Jean Ferrell of Kingsport, TN; step-son William Bidgood of Downers Grove, IL; step-daughter, Barbara Rocker of Haines City, FL; sister, Charlotte Gross of Blauvelt, NY; and 5 loving grandchildren: Christie, Beau, Drew, Michael and Molly. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Frederick Bidgood of New York, NY, and a grandson, William and two brothers, Walter and John T Schmidt. His first wife, the former Margaret Seaborg, died in 1970.
Funeral Services were held at the Snow Hill Methodist Church, Franklin, NC.
