John Van Buren Bedell

John Van Buren Bedell was born on July 31, 1902, in Somerville, Massachusetts, to Marion Van Buren and Charles E Bedell. In Rye his family lived at 85 Halsted Place and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

John attended Rye schools and obtained an industrial engineering degree at Columbia University.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. Before entering the U. S. Army, he was associated with the New York Telephone Company.

During his service he was stationed in Washington, D.
C.

He remarried Miss Maxine Hood in July of 1942 and the couple would have two children.

Miss Maxine Hood, daughter of Mrs. George Harris Hood of White Plains, was married Saturday morning to John V. B. Bedell, First Lieutenant, U. S. A. , son of Mrs. Charles Ellsworth Bedell of Halstead Place and the late Dr. Bedell. The ceremony at eleven oclock in the First Presbyterian Church was performed by the Rev. Dr. John D. Gregory and was followed by a wedding breakfast at Blind Brook Inn. The bride was given in marriage by her mother. She wore a dress of blue crepe and a corsage of yellow roses. The brides sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ward W. Killion, of Cleveland, Ohio, attended the couple. Lieutenant Bedell attended Rye Schools and received his engineering degree from Columbia University. He is stationed in Washington. The couple will live in Arlington, Va.

After the war, John was back working at NY telephone company and living in Rye with his family.
