Arthur Weeks Farrington was born on July 1, 1921, in Port Chester, New York, to Eutrulia Pearl Weeks, age 28, and Hiram Alfred Farrington, age 39. He attended Milton School and Rye High School. In Rye his family lived at 20 Park Lane.

Arthur enlisted July 14, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a radio electrician in the 88th Infantry Division with the 349th Infantry Regiment and rise to the rank of sergeant.

‘Sgt. Arthur W. Farrington, 20 Park
Lane, radio electrician, is serving
with the 349th Infantry Regiment,
one of Lieut.-Gen. Mark W. Clark’s
Fifth Army units which smashed the
Gustav and Hitler Lines and chased
the Germans from the Garigliano to
the Arno River in Italy.
Part of the 88th Infantry Division,
first Selective Service infantry division to enter combat on any front,
the 349th piled up a total of 95 miles
gained in 46 days of actual combat
during the Fifth Army sweep up the
Italian Peninsula.
Known as the “Kraut-Killers”, doughboys of the 349th fought across
some of the worst mountainous terrain to capture Foadi, key point in
the vaunted Adolf Hitler Line, and
protected the flank of the French
Corps in its push across Mts. Ausoni
and Lepini.
Highlight of the regiment’s action below Rome came at Maenza when
one platoon ambushed an entire German armored company attempting to
flee the town.

Arthur was honorably discharged November 25, 1945. With his Army experience as a radio electrician, he opened the June and Farrington Radio Repair Store in Larchmont, NY.

He married Miss Betty Seaman, daughter of Mrs. Charlotte Balcom, 552. Milton Road, Rye in November of 1947. The ceremony was performed in Grace Chapel, Milton by the Rev. Henry McNulty, A wedding supper followed at Thomson’s Restaurant, Rye.

Arthur and Betty started a family and would have seven children. They moved from Rye in 1965 to Ludlow, VT. In 1988 they retired to Livingston, TX. Both were members of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ludlow.

Arthur Weeks Farrington died on July 3, 1995, at the age of 74.

At the time of his death, survivors included his wife Betty, four daughters, Sandra Hayes of Lakeland, Fla., Barbara of Ludlow, Judith of Katy and Patricia Tatem of Winter Haven, Fla.; three sons, Arthur Farrington Jr. Mount Holly, Vt., William Farrington of Katy and Peter Farrington of Stonegate, Vt.; a stepsister, Marion (Seaman) Weber; two stepbrothers, Hugh Seaman and William Seaman; and 10 grandchildren.
