Edward B. Farwell was born in Chicago, Nov. 9, 1911, he-was the son of Edward B. Sr. and Lillian Brescha Farwell. He had a sister Mary and a brother Joseph. In Rye his family lived at 15 Valley View Avenue.

After graduating from Iona Prep School in New Rochelle, New York, he attended Villanova. He later worked as a salesman for Union Carbide until World War II. Edward enlisted April 15, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He served with the U.S. Army Air Force in Europe as a flight engineer and later as a tail gunner in the 494 Bomber Squadron.

The squadron were flew Martin B-26 Marauders and arrived at its first combat station, RAF Stansted Mountfitchet on 8 February 1944, where the unit became part of IX Bomber Command. The squadron engaged in tactical bombardment of enemy targets in Occupied Europe initially from stations in England.

After D-Day, moved to Advanced Landing Grounds in France and Belgium; advancing eastward as Allied ground forces advanced. Supported Eighth Air Force strategic bombardment missions over Germany and Occupied Europe; striking enemy airfields to obtain maximum interference in Luftwaffe day interceptor attacks on heavy bomber formations returning to England.

It also participated in Western Allied Invasion of Germany, March–April 1945, combat ending with German Capitation in May 1945.

Following his release from active duty, he worked as a machinist model maker with several different companies until retiring in 1973.

A resident of Oxford since 1972, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Edward Bryant Farwell Jr. f Willows Avenue, Oxford, died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1981. He was 69.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Francis Brown Farwell, whom he married in 1951; a daughter, Carol F. Daffin of Oxford; a sister, Mary Edna Lawless of Hurlock; a brother, Joseph J. Farwell of Florida and two granddaughters.

Funeral services were held at the Newnam Funeral Home in Easton on Friday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Ralph E. Day, pastor of the Easton Church of God, officiated. Burial was at Maryland Veteran’s Cefrtetafy at Hurlock.
