Carson Peck Herrick was born on February 3, 1918, in Newark, New Jersey, to Florence Balwin Ayer, age 28, and Clarence Allen Herrick, age 31. He had two brothers Alan and Paul and one sister Florence.

In Rye his family lived at 66 Milton Road and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Carson was a graduate of Westminster School and Packard Business College.

He served as a Flight Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. A “Flight Officer” in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II refers to a pilot rank, essentially equivalent to a junior officer, who would have flown combat missions in aircraft like Spitfires or Hurricanes, participating in battles like the Battle of Britain alongside other Allied forces; this rank was commonly used by Canadian pilots during the war.

During the Second World War, the RCAF was a major contributor to the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and was involved in operations in the United Kingdom, Europe, the north Atlantic, North Africa, southern Asia, and with home defense. Eight thousand, eight hundred and sixty-four Americans came north to volunteer for the RCAF and over 850 died in action. By the end of the war, the RCAF had become the fourth largest Allied air force.

Carson married Vivien P. Brophy January 17,1945 in St.
John’s Church, Ottawa, Canada. The ceremony was performed by the Rev.
Northcote Burke and a reception followed at the Roxborough.

Carson spent many years working for Ford Motor Corporation in Canada. Later he worked as distribution manager for General Motors in Ottawa.

He was a board member of the Ottawa Philharmonic Orchestra and served as treasurer of the Alberta Camping Association. He was a devoted family man with special interests in sailing, history and gardening.

Carson Peck Herrick died peacefully at home in Ottawa on Tuesday, November 20, 1984

He was a loving husband of Vivien. Father of Jill (Mrs. F.J. Dunbar), Oakville; Carson A., Edmonton; and stepfather of Diana Brophy (Mrs. Peter LaRocque), Smiths Falls. Grandfather of Alan, Eric and David Haslett, Oakville; and Kimberly, Edmonton. Brother of Paul, Allan and Florence (Mrs. T. Carnegie III).

Friends attended the funeral service at St. John’s Anglican Church, Elgin. Interment was at Beechwood Cemetery.
