Walter King was born in New York 30 Nov 1925 to Walter and Eileen Burke King. In 1940 at the age of 14, Walter was the oldest of 4 children with three younger brothers Martin, Donald and Vincent in the household. Walter’s father was 41 and his mother was 35 . Both of Walter’s parents had a high school education. Walter was in elementary school.
Walter’s father was born in New York and his mother was born in Northern Ireland. Most of the children, including Walter were born in New York. The census worker recorded Walter’s father’s occupation as an Engineer Mechanical in the New York City Post Office. In Rye his family lived at 138 Osborn Road.
After attending the Merchant Marine Academy, Walter served as a first mate in the U.S.Merchant Marines during World War II.
After the war, he worked for a time as a handyman at Westchester beach Club. He was a Rye resident for 30 years before moving to Cos Cob in 1955. He had worked as a steamfitter with the New York Local 939 for 37 years.
Walter E King Jr died Friday 2/14/86 in Santa Marta Colombia where he vacationed each winter He was 60 years old. At the time of his death he was survived by three sons Brian and Kevin of Greenwich Conn and Walter of Martinsville NJ: and three brothers Vincent, Martin and Donald
