Description

John Albert Levy was born January 30, 1925 in New York, son of the late Aaron and Mildred Levy. In Rye his family lived at 252 Greenhaven Rd.

John enlisted June 24,1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Pvt. John Levy is at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky, where he studied mining field problems in preparation for overseas duty.

He served with the The 291st Infantry Regiment was a National Army Infantry Regiment first organized for service in World War II as part of the 75th Infantry Division in Europe. The regiment fought across France and Germany, entering Germany on 10 March 1945.

John was awarded the Bronze Star for his service and was honorably discharged September 1, 1945.

He married Sylvia Horowitz (Levy) in 1959 and they had three children together.

John Albert Levy, of Bloomfield, CT beloved husband of the late Sylvia Horowitz Levy, died peacefully Wednesday, (September 16, 2009) at Hartford Hospital.

At the time of his death, John was survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Meredith Levy, of Scottsdale, AZ; his daughter and son-in-law, Felicia M. and Robert Lieberman of Tallwoods Village, NSW Australia; a sister, Susan Perlman of New York City; his grandchildren, Kimberly Randle, Christopher Lieberman and Sarah Levy; a sister-in-law, Ellin Bloch of Pasadena, California and two nieces and a nephew.

Funeral service were held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. The burial will be follow at the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation Emek Shalom Memorial Park in Avon.
