James T. P. Ryan

James T. P. Ryan was born on June 24, 1918, in Bronx, New York, to Maria E Rehermann, age 41, and James Timothy Patrick Ryan, age 47. In his youth he and his family spent many pleasant days in their summer home in Rye where he especially enjoyed swimming at Oakland beach and sailing on the Sound.

He attended New York City schools and graduated from Fordham University in 1940. He had a brother Arthur and three sisters Anna, Ruth and Marguerite. In Rye his family lived at 657 Forest Avenue and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

James served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Commissioned Ensign
James T. P. Ryan, son of Mrs. T, P. Ryan of Forest Avenue, has been commissioned an ensign in the U. S. N. R. He was graduated last week from the U. S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn. Ensign Ryan is a graduate of Fordham.

James served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1946. As an officer on an LCI during WWII. James was involved in U.S. landings in North Africa, Italy and France.

As a result of the war he spent the majority of his adult life in hospitals under VA care. A gentle and scholarly man, James, along with many others, paid a dear price in the service of his country.

James T. P. Ryan of Rye died on April 27, 2005. He was 86.

His family members who predeceased him are sisters Ruth Fendler, Anna Dolan, Marguerite Almy and a brother, Dr. Arthur Ryan.

A private Mass and burial took place on Saturday, April 30 at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
