Robert Dalmon Turner

Robert Dalmon Turner was born on February 29, 1916, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to Metha Alvina Covert and Roscoe Williams Turner.

He married married Marguerite Audley Jordan in Camden, North Carolina, on August 17, 1936, when he was 20 years old. In 1940 they lived at 1159 Norview Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. At the time Norfolk had a population of 144,332 and was the 2nd largest city in the state. At the age of 24, Robert D was the head of the household when married to Marguerite, age 28. They had 3 children two from their marriage and one from her previous marriage.

Marguerite and Robert would divorce and he would move to temporarily to Rye, NY working as a self employed electrician. In Rye he lived at 85 Old Post Road. Robert enlisted on October 21, 1943, when he was 27 years old and served as an electrician in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He would marry Mary Martha Holloway on March 26, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia. They would have three children together and would bring up all five of Roberts children. Both Mary and Robert would work at the Naval Air Base in Norfolk, VA and raise their family.

Robert Dalmon Turner died on March 14, 1996, at the age of 80.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Mary Holloway Turner, children: Robert D. Turner and his wife Pat of New Bern NC , Sue Clous and her husband Bud of Norfolk, Jo Anne Wallace and her husband John of Wilmington NC, Richard W. Turner and his wife Avis of Eden Prarie MN, and Robert B. Turner of Norfolk; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was buried at Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, Elizabeth City, NC.
