Frank Tutera

Frank Tutera was born in Port Chester, New York September 5,1915. He had five brothers and two sisters. Locally his family lived at 61 So Regent Street.

He attended Port Chester High School. Frank received his undergraduate degree from City College of New York and his doctorate in English from Columbia University Teacher’s College.

Frank served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Communications Officer, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He served with both the North Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. His ship, the USS George Elliott, was sunk at the Battle of Guadalcanal.

After the war, Frank taught school for over 30 years, spending the majority of his career at Scarsdale High School. He loved to read and was an active member of the German Choral Society for many years.

Frank John Tutera, born September 5,1915, beloved father of Frank, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada and Albert of Orlando, Florida, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at the age of ninety-one.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, the former Jennie Rich of Rye, New York. He has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also predeceased by several brothers and a sister.

Surviving were his brother, Theodore Tutera and his sisters, Mary Ruvo and Erminea Mellilo, all of Port Chester, New York.

A Mass was held at the Resurrection Church in Rye, New York . Interment followed at the Greenwood Union Cemetery.
