Albert Ellsworth Tuttle

Albert Ellsworth Tuttle was born on January 10, 1893, in Otselic, New York, to Jennie Adelaide Sabin and Elmer Eugene Tuttle.

He married Helen J Strickland on July 11, 1923, in Cattaraugus, New York. He then married Lillian Addie Button in 1940.

Locally, he was principle of Mamaroneck High School School. During World War II, he served as Chairman of the Rye- Mamaroneck Draft Board 750. Also (SEE DRAFT CARD)

For 17 years he was assistant to the superintendent of schools in Mamaroneck. A former principal of the old Mamaroenck Avenue School for 12 years, he was a Past president of the Westchester Schoolmen’s Club and the Public Schools Business Officials Association of New York.

Albert Ellsworth was vice president of the New York Schoolmen’s Club. Member of Phi Delta Kappa, honorai’y pedagogical fraternity, Mr. Tuttle was a member of the University Club of Larchmont, the Larchmont Men’s Club, the Mamaroneck Methodist Church and the Larchmont Rotay Club, of which he was a past president.

Albert Ellsworth Tuttle died on January 13, 1977, in Mamaroneck, New York, at the age of 84, and was buried in North Bend, Nebraska.

Albert Elisha Tuttle was born on December 29, 1896, in Rye, New York to Helen Alice Saint John and James Sackett Tuttle. In Rye his family lived on Grace Church Street and before the war, he was working for Eidson Landscape Co. in Bala Cynwyd, PA . (SEE DRAFT CARD)

Albert Elisha enlisted march 28,1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served with the Seabees in the 24th Construction Battalion as a Construction Mechanic Fist Class (CM1c), service number 646 93 57. (SEE MUSTER ROLLS). The battalion was first commissioned on September 4, 1942, at the Naval Construction Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia.
World War II: It served in the Pacific Theater, seeing action at locations including New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Rendova, and Munda Island.

During WWII, CM1c (Construction Mechanic First Class) was a skilled rating within the Seabees (Construction Battalions), the U.S. Navy’s construction force, responsible for rapidly building crucial infrastructure like airfields, roads, and bases in combat zones, often under fire, blending construction expertise with military readiness to “Build, Fight, and Win” far from home.

Albert Elisha was honorably discharged February 27, 1945.

He was a retired Landscaper for the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Clearwater, Fla., he was a Veteran of World War II U. S. Navy Seabees and a member of the Disabled Veterans of Dunedin, Fla.
