William Van Winkle

William Mitchell Van Winkle was born on January 17, 1913, in Westchester, New York, to Mary Laird Busk and William M Van Winkle He prepared at St. Paul’s School, graduated Harvard with the class of ’35 and was a graduate of Columbia Law School.

William married Miss Marjorie A Boesel in Rye, New York, on December 7, 1940, when he was 27 years old. The wedding took place at the Presbyterian
Church where the Rev. Dr. John D. Gregory officiated. Edgar B. Van Winkle was best man
for his brother. After a wedding trip, William and his bride lived at 80 Coolidge Avenue in Rye.

William enlisted in the Army on September 21, 1943, in New York City, New York, during World War II when he was 30 years old. He served in the judge advocates office in Washington, DC.

William and his family lived in Rye throughout the 1960’s and were involved in many community affairs especially the Presbyterian Church. He remained practicing law in NYC throughout his career.

William Mitchell Van Winkle died on February 11, 2004, in Litchfield, Connecticut, at the age of 91, and was buried there.
