Description
Leonard T. Vecchiolla was born in New York 15 Apr 1923. In Rye his family lived at 124 Maple Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
He lived with his father, Micheal Vecchiolla, his mother, Lucia, his younger brothers, Anthony,John, Micheal Jr, Daniel, and one sister, Laura. Both parents were both born in Italy, while all the children were born in New York.
Growing up in Rye, Leonard was educated in the Rye public school system and was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1940. In high school he was a member of the Fingerprints, Drivers and Boxing Clubs.
Leonard enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
After the war he was employed as an accountant for the Continental Baking Co., Rye, and formerly worked for Aerotec Industries of Greenwich.
He was a member of the Harrison Chapter, Knights of Columbus, and was a parishioner of the Church of St. Gregory the Great. He had lived in Harrison 18 years.
Leonard T. Vecchiolla, 43 of 177 Osborn Road, Harrison, was pronounced dead at his home at noon Thursday August 11, 1966 of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In addition to his mother, he was survived by his wife, the former Joanna DiBattisto of the home address; his daughter, Carlene and a son, Leonard Jr., both of the home address; four brothers, Anthony and Michael of Port Chester, Daniel of Portland, Ore., and Dr. John Vecchiolla of Hartford; and a sister, Mrs. George Spaulding of Port Chester.
A solemn requiem mass was held Tuesday at The Church of St. Gregory The Great in Harrison. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
