Joseph Yusi Joseph Yusi nickname Deke was born in Rye on March 15, 1907 to Italian parents Louis Yusi, 1869 – 1937 and Marie A. nee Spinelli 1887- 1958.
He had five brothers; Eddy, Steve, Peter, George, Micky and John and five sisters; Rose, Angie, Kate, Clair, and Florence. They lived at 68 Grapal Street, Rye and members of the Church of the Resurrection.
During the WW2 Joseph Yusi was a cook and medic, serving mostly with the 96 Evacuation Hospital.
He enlisted in December 1942 and served till the end of the war. Campaigns included: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He married Valma Williams of Ipswich Australia in 1956 they had two sons David Yusi and Joseph (Jay) Yusi and lived at Rye Colony Apartments, Peck Avenue, Rye, and at 445 Forest Ave, Rye.
Joseph worked for many years at the Appawamis Club in Rye as the Caddie Master. He was a life member of the Port Chester Old Timers Athletic Association.
Joseph Yusi died in 1967 aged 60. He is buried with his parents in St Mary’s Cemetery Rye Brook.
