George Quentin Conover was born on October 31, 1921, in Port Chester, New York, to Emilie Anne Friese, age 24, and George Irving Conover, age 27. He had two brothers Mallick and John and two sisters Mary and Elizabeth. In Rye his family lived at 11 Eleanor Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
George was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1939. In high school he was a messenger, a member of the Drivers Club and ran track. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He rose to the rank of Sergaent while serving in Italy.
After the war George graduated from the University of Maryland in 1950. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Business and Public Administration. At the time the graduating class of 2,419 was the largest in that school’s history.
George was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity . He was employed by the Equitable Life Insurance Company in Baltimore, where he was living with his recent bride.
George would work as an independent mortgage broker and remain in that industry throughout his lifetime. He and his wife settled in Maryland and raised their family.
George Quentin Conover died on May 2, 2018, in Catonsville, Maryland, when he was 96 years old.
