There were over 1450 men and women who served and they are listed by their various branches below. Many of us had the privilege of knowing our World War II veterans. They were our Fathers, in some cases our Mothers, our Uncles and Aunts, our Coaches, our Teachers. They were the Mailman, the Fireman, the Cops, the Plumbers, the Scout Leaders, The Bankers, The Store Owners and the Commuters. They were Rye and below is an attempt to tell the stories of their service!

    Once in an interview Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan) was asked “Is there anything worse than dying in a war”. Hanks took a very deep breath and looked the interviewer in the eye and replied, “Yes, only one thing, Not being remembered

    On this page Everyday is Memorial Day and we are here to honor those who died. Each year the names of these men are called out at the service on the Village Green, sadly, most of us could not put a face to their names. We knew very little or nothing about them. Below we have created biographies of those men who died and we now know something of their sacrifice. We encourage everyone to read as many as you possibly can, they are truly memorable.
